Introduction

Exploring No Not One

Dear Readers,

What a journey God has taken me on while writing this book! I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

Life has a way of distracting you with unexpected perils and addictions; BUT GOD, has proven time and again that the fiery darts that the devil casts at you are no match for Jesus. He can use all your pain, sorrow, and anxiety to remold you into His masterpiece. Piece by piece He can pick up the shards of your brokenness and restore your soul.

When your heart is full of the love of Jesus, rivers of flowing water will continuously expel through those cracks extinguishing hate with love. Then the light of Jesus beams forth drawing others. As you express your story of redemption, hope encourages the broken to step forth from their sin and darkness towards the path of peace, love and joy. Your testimony proves to others facing similar insurmountable issues that they are not alone; Jesus is the only path to true freedom.

This world can only offer death. While we still have breath, it’s time to Come Alive forming a community of Children of God, spreading a wave of love instead of hate. Why is it every time you try to strengthen your faith, something always gets in the way? What if the broken held the key to spreading the gospel and changing the world? What if the devil keeps attacking you because he knows what you are capable of?

What would happen if all the broken joined together with one voice praising Jesus? Could our combined worship cause God to smile down on this earth allowing for a massive Revival?

Time is of the essence… it’s time to call for Revival and find out! Complete your first 100-day challenge and see what the love of Jesus can do in your life.

This is how my story of tragedy became one of victory, literally overnight! Perspective changes everything. I do hope my journey stirs Revival in your heart too.

I started writing about my Corningware Cornflower vintage kitchenware on February 5 of this year as a hobby. I was proud of all the time, expense, and hard work I had put into this extensive collection. Ten days later, I awoke at 3:00 AM from a dream crying uncontrollably. After twenty hours of non-stop typing, the technical manual I was working on was transformed into an assignment to bring the broken home. REVIVAL: Come Alive 2025 - You Were Made for More!

The book ‘No, Not One!’ came flowing out of me, accompanied by rivers of tears. Believe it or not, the book name and the corresponding website were still available. This Godwink encouraged me to create a corresponding website as an advocacy platform to help others find information that can improve their lives physically, mentally, socially, and most importantly, spiritually.

Knowing not everyone has the time to shop for quality clothing at an affordable price led me to open an online thrift shop called Buy One Christian’s Closet which provides gently used clothing at a set price of $8.

It’s time to clean out your closet and dust off your life! Remove the old clothes and memories that tie you to your past. Break those chains, start fresh, and be free. Clean out all that negativity in your heart and mind. Accept where you are now and find a new style that makes you smile!

Return to church to be filled and refilled with all God has to offer. Explore your personal relationship with Jesus and like-minded individuals. Make friends. Fellowship.

Go on fun scavenger hunts to find the elusive Corningware Cornflower that instills your family values. Display your “treasures” in an actual old-fashioned china cabinet with all your photos and trinkets from your adventures. Show your children how much they mean to you with family meals and bonding moments. Pass down your keepsakes for generations to come. Maybe you’ll start your own collection at: www.CorningwareCornflowerConnection.com. Keep all those memories in your Family Adventure Binder. Have fun! Enjoy your children. Life was meant to be lived.

Yes, as crazy as it seems, I Miss Bess dare to call for Revival. I am on assignment to bring the broken home: back to the church, back to repentance, back to the Call, the Truth, and the Kingdom of God starting Sunday, May 25. Too many people sit home alone, broken and hopeless. Their guilt, shame, and fears keep them from experiencing God’s love, grace, and mercy. Their gifts go unused.

These individuals often feel unappreciated and unneeded. I dare say they don’t feel welcome at church either. Their brokenness separates them, which makes them even more vulnerable to the devil. But with the love of Jesus and support from the church, challenges can be addressed. Issues and addictions can be overcome, allowing others in similar situations to be motivated to greatness too. It is truly a win-win!

I realize now that the Great Commission was a requirement, not a request. That invitation is not solely the pastor’s job; spreading the good news of the gospel applies to us all! It’s time to get busy. We all have a renewed purpose in life to Go. NOW! Do. Be.

I’m asking people to get involved and strive to make Heaven crowded. Stand up and take a stand! Don’t let others stop you from fighting for what you believe in. Everybody should have the opportunity for Revival at least once in their lifetime.

Christians, as Children of God, we need to train up properly; our similarities need to speak louder than our differences. We need to stop pointing the finger acting like our church is the only one going to Heaven. Let’s start a Revival and see where the Lord takes it. Let’s give the broken the gift of life in Jesus, then allow that gift to be taken to others.

The distractions of this world need to stop. The anger, abuse, and neglect need to stop. The church has a responsibility to do something about it. People are dying every day and think they know where they are going. I’m afraid they may be gravely mistaken, and it will be too late for change. Compromised Christians do more damage to the Kingdom than full-blown atheists.

It’s time to stop attending church for holidays, whenever it’s convenient, or not at all. You can’t attend church one or two days a week, be proud of yourself, then backslide the other five or six days. That is not the way to find God’s favor. It is impossible to live with the devil during the week, visit God on the weekend, and be blessed. That is what makes a hypocrite. Let’s keep each other accountable and scripturally sound. Let’s stop going around that mountain and head towards the promised land God had in store for each of us.

I’m getting on that narrow path to Heaven, and I’m reaching back to take a hand. Please take my hand. Then reach out and take another’s hand. We need to form a chain linking us to Heaven. It’s not the chain that’s the problem; it’s the life we’ve tied ourselves to.

Seniors are dying with valuable information that can revive their country, yet they sit home without social contact and rot away. It’s time for the flesh to return to the dry bones. It’s time for the church to lead the way. This will require workers and those who aren’t afraid of sacrificing for the greater good. You know who you are.

If I just struck a nerve of greatness in you, the spark God gave you is still there. Work on your personal relationship with Jesus and watch Him fan that flame. God is waiting to breathe life back into this world. Please help me spread the word. Together, we can make this happen for the Glory of God.

Should you know of anyone in your circle who could help stir this pot of Revival, your circle plus my circle, and the circles of others... this is what makes the chain to Heaven.

I thank you for your time, and I hope God truly blesses you abundantly. I’ll be praying for you.

Love,
Miss Bess

No, Not One!

Chapter 1

Monday... Not Again!

If your life is made up of one distraction after another, and you never truly finish anything, what legacy will you leave when it is all over? Will anyone even notice that you are gone?

Did you pursue your dreams? Do you even recall what they were? Did your life have an impact?

Life is certainly a journey of highs and lows. One moment, the excitement of the approaching holidays filled the air. I was listening to Christmas songs on the radio and singing along enthusiastically. The anticipation for the holiday season had been building for some time. I looked forward to a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, followed by the festive spirit of Christmas, all culminating with a joyful New Year! The fridge was filled with tasty treats, all my errands were completed, and the gifts were already in the mail.

Then BOOM! What happened? I felt the car jolt to the right. I was hit. Sideswiped. All I could think was “No, no, no, no, no, no, no! This is not happening.” I tried to close my eyes tightly to pray and will it all away. But I could not.

Another accident! I never saw it coming. Didn’t they know I had a week of peace and quiet planned? Isn’t that the way it always happens when life shows up to spoil your day? Just when you least expect it. At this point, though, it’s too late to dwell on that. Now, I just need to embrace the situation and deal with the consequences of this accident, whether it was my fault or not.

I was just two blocks from home. It was the Monday before Thanksgiving, November 25. It had been exactly two years since my last car accident. There were three in total. This marked the third.

But why now? Hadn’t I already been through enough? The chaos was beginning to subside. I was getting healthy again. I was finally settling into my new home and my new life.

The transition was hard. There was so much to do. I didn’t know where to start or who to trust. I felt lost. Meeting Kathleen at the pool became my saving grace. She recognized my brokenness and showed compassion. That was all it took. Her kind words and heartfelt suggestions were desperately needed. She belonged to a different era, when clarity was more prevalent, even obvious. The distinction between right and wrong was clearer. She often dedicated weeks and months to explaining concepts that were self-evident to her but not to me. Perception influences how one views the same situation.

What a blessing she has been in my life! If there were an Angel Award, she would receive one. I don’t know if she has done anything that this world would consider extraordinary, but that’s just the point. She simply shows up. It’s who she is. She willingly shares whatever information she has gained from her experiences. She conveys what worked and didn’t work for her. She dedicates her time and her testimony. A testimony is your story. Everyone has one.

Some testimonies are read like a biography, long and dry. Some stories are still a mystery where no one knows how the story will end. Some read like a comedy, but life is no joke. Humor is only funny when we laugh with others, not at others. No one needs to see another thriller or horror movie; this world already offers enough pain and sorrow. But if you’re still breathing, then you have time to change your ending.

Everyone reaches that point in their story: the cliffhanger. What happens next? Which way do we go? This is where the power of choice takes over.

My story seemed to resemble the theme behind the movie “Groundhog Day.” You should check out the trailer on YouTube. I’ve seen this movie many times before. This trailer made me stop and think. I can’t explain it. Some things you have to see to grasp the full meaning, and even then, it impacts everyone a little differently. What the story of my life.

Sometimes, words spoken in laughter disguise deep feelings of pain and despair. Have you given up the fight and accepted your fate? Are you truly living life to the fullest? Or is life just one big party, with you as the guest of honor? Are you living like there’s no tomorrow? Do you feel as if you’ve been stabbed, shot, frozen, and electrocuted? Has that sensation left you feeling immortal? Or are you trapped in a cycle of reliving the same day repeatedly, unsure of what change would make that real difference in your life? Are you trapped by all your guilt and pain?

All of life is meant to praise God. Whether you choose to accept it or not, God is in every breath we take. Think of it this way: at birth, we inhale (Yah), and at the end of our life, we exhale our last breath (Weh). ‘YHWH” was the Hebrew name for God revealed to Moses in the book of Exodus. The very breath we take is proof of God’s blessings. Amen.

We are meant to worship God in response to the gift of life that He gave us. Some say thank you, while others offer no thanks. He gives each of us the choice to make individually. Our response isn’t just verbal; it should also be reflected in the way we live our lives. It’s never too late to show gratitude by following His Ten Commandments.

Have you had enough hurt, pain, rejection, humiliation, guilt, loneliness, sorrow, and regret? Have you been broken, bruised, and battered to the point of being shattered?      Excellent. Now that you have been devastated and destroyed by this world, allow Jesus to gently pick up each shard and remake you into the exquisite masterpiece He intended you to be. You won’t discover your full potential until God’s perfect Will moves in and through you. Only God knows how your story ends.

At the beginning of the Groundhog Day movie clip, you meet a miserable individual who has given up. This is what defines a wasted life, a life devoid of hope. When he pauses and examines his reflection in the mirror, he recognizes that his responses to life’s challenges can influence the outcome. At first, he lives life recklessly, but when that doesn’t bring the happiness he expected, he begins his quest to find love, peace, and joy.

Now, that grumpy old man jumps out of bed each morning, eager for what the day might bring, whether good or bad. He embraces each challenge the world presents to him. He uses each disappointment life brings as an opportunity to improve.

God can only pick up the broken pieces after we recognize that a specific area of our life needs repair. You become humbled when you accept and are willing to endure the consequences of your sins. This humility reveals your need to repent and ask God to pick up and restore that broken piece of your life.

Understand that any addiction you surrender to God can be lifted. This process may take time and may depend on how deeply entrenched you are. However, you won’t have to face the process alone. God will be with you the entire time for support. No human can offer that.

The fact that God has allowed you to remove obstacles from your path in the past makes it possible for you to believe that He will continue to remove any other obstacle of sin from your life that you ask Him to in the future. Give it to God. Let Him do the heavy lifting of redeeming you. Only He can.

Please remember that sometimes an excess of good days can lead you to stop depending on God to guide your steps, which merely evidences that pride comes before the fall. That’s when you wake up one day and realize you’ve drifted off course. If you are living life with prolonged periods of good times and no challenges at all, perhaps you aren’t pushing yourself enough. Complacency is of the devil.

When you wake up in the morning, consider saying, “Here I am, Lord. What would you like me to do today?” This is the best way to embrace the day. Discover God’s opportunities and see where He guides your heart. Opportunities are everywhere. Often it’s the littlest things that bring the greatest joy.

Regardless of winning or losing, you have given your all, which results in growth. You have learned something valuable. You might not grasp the full significance of an experience until years later when it fits like a piece of a puzzle. Hindsight can indeed be bliss.

If others can change their lives, so can you. One step at a time. I believe that 90 percent of the battle is simply being committed daily to stop the madness. The next step after that isn’t the hardest. That lie comes from the devil himself. It’s the easiest. The battle is within you. The day you say no more and commit your life to Christ is when you allow God to do His part and shut that door for you. Man cannot open doors that God closes. Trust that God will provide the way.

The battle isn’t over. Free will resides in your mind. You must wake up each day and invite Jesus to lead you. Now is the time for you to act. You must shut the door to negative, addictive thoughts and replace them with the restorative words of Scripture. Let its power and wisdom fill your spirit. The Word holds great strength.

“Groundhog Day” describes life’s ups and downs and what happens when you are stuck in a humorous way. Life presents us with challenges and triumphs. While we may be unable to change our current circumstances, that doesn’t mean we have to remain there indefinitely. Any growth is positive. Positive thoughts can replace negative ones. Pray and be specific about the changes you wish to see.

The movie trailer reminds us why it is not wise to drive while angry and the potential consequences of allowing anyone other than Jesus to take the wheel. The clip ends happily with a toast to world peace.

Unusually, this movie illustrates what occurs when you allow God to guide your life. You don’t become God or even a god; you become a Child of God. When you witness His love, grace and mercy at work in your life, your faith expands, allowing you to achieve miracles!

No, Not One!

Chapter 2

We All Have A Story

My story included hopes and dreams and the search for love and acceptance. My last written chapter began on May 25, 2018. We were newlyweds, taking another chance on love. The moving truck had delivered the boxes to our new home less than two weeks earlier. The area was quiet and serene, just ten miles from the house where I grew up. I had never lived more than twenty miles from my birthplace.

It was a beautiful old log cabin nestled in a quiet neighborhood. We were almost home after picking up flowers to plant in the yard. The sun shone brightly, making it a lovely day and the perfect start to the Memorial Day weekend. We stopped at the traffic light, just a few blocks from home, when we were hit from behind. We never saw it coming.

That car accident became the defining moment that changed my life forever—initially for the worse, then for the better. The devil used that accident to label me as permanently disabled. Unaware of the consequences of accepting such a label, I allowed that title to define me when I should have let my God define me. It turns out that what you permit to define you eventually becomes your identity.

You think of sin as temporary, believing you can indulge occasionally and easily stop. This is yet another blatant lie that the devil wants you to think. If the devil can convince you that just a tiny bit of sin is safe, Satan can distort your genuine identity in Christ. Christ leads with order. The devil leads with confusion. He encourages you to open sin’s door ever so slightly—just to take a quick peek or whiff for immediate pleasure—then you can just shut it with no consequences. You think no one will ever find out, you got away with it, but your soul knows.

Humans may not see, but you can be sure that God sees everything, and so does the devil. Life is a constant tug-of-war when you sit on the fence. You think that if you’re on the fence, you can hang out with the devil and “have fun” until the end, and then call out to God, and you will be saved.

This is a lie. Every action, every thought is either sin or it isn’t. The devil is deceitful. You had better check that property line. It is impossible to hold hands with both God and the devil simultaneously. You can’t be loyal to both. Don’t wait until the end to discover that the devil owns the fence.

I encourage you to memorize 1 Peter 5:5-11. It is the key that sets you free. “Submit to God, Resist the Devil: Likewise, you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’ Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (emphasis mine)

Wreaking havoc is the devil’s sole reason for existence. His singular goal is to destroy human beings. We were created by the hand of God Himself, the result of God’s love, grace, and mercy. The enemy was jealous once more!

My two previous auto accidents, both of which involved being hit from behind while I was a passenger, had already caused me immense heartache and pain. First, I had my neck fusion, followed by COVID, then my lower back fusion, and the desperate need for a 1,200-mile move south to warmer weather.

The more I was being drawn to the Lord, the more the attacks would come. One after the other. Those strange circumstances became so familiar to me that I began to recognize them for what they really were, spiritual warfare.

The devil had studied me for years. He understood my strengths and weaknesses better than I did. He became so skilled at deception and distraction in my life that I was ineffective in everything I attempted. He slowed me down, diverted me with shiny objects, and even halted me in my tracks with tragedy more times than I could count.

Now, he was picking off my Fruits of the Spirit one by one just to see me squirm. He always enjoys that. Another panic attack. Anxiety and depression were my pungent aromas to him. The devil relishes the rancid smell of fear.

Galatians 5:13-26 says, “Life by the Spirit: You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” (emphasis mine)

That’s the problem with the devil: he knows when you draw closer to God. He hates the sweet aroma of sacrifice to the Lord. It drives him crazy. He can’t kill you. Oh, he’d like to, but your days are still numbered by God.

The devil uses his army of satanic fallen angels to pursue you just as he did Job. As if destroying all of Job’s material possessions weren’t enough, he killed all ten of his children. Job was tried and tested through the fire time and again. Yet Job remained steadfast in his faith. He knew God had a plan that was greater than himself. His story continues to inspire us all. God would reward him abundantly.

Make no mistake. The devil is not a cute cartoon character with a pitchfork, horns, and a long, pointy tail. The devil is a formidable opponent who will do everything possible to trick and deceive you. He is an evil master of manipulation.

He will bait you with compromising sin, deliciously seductive sin. There are so many to choose from; pick your poison. He will confuse you to the point where he can control you without you even knowing it. Open that door even a crack, and he will come in and convince you of the most unspeakable things.

Although he could possess you if you are not saved. When you follow Jesus, he is only allowed to tempt you by planting harmful thoughts in your mind. He sows confusion and discord, desiring you to hurt or even kill yourself in a moment of despair or possibly others in a moment of rage. He enjoys slowly tormenting you over time, hoping you lash out and inflict the same pain on others. Misery loves company, and the devil will never have enough.

He wants you to believe that you’re still in control. Sinful pleasure comes with a price, and he wants you to think you can afford it all, until the final bill arrives.

This is the worst part. Sin is the tool he uses to make us willingly surrender our lives to him. He employs guilt, fear, and embarrassment to control us, invoking just the right memory at just the right moment to keep you exactly where he wants you. This prevents you from turning to God and keeps you submissive to the devil. It’s debilitating.

That is why you need Jesus, the light of the world. You need to repent, which means consciously striving every day not to repeat those actions. Jesus’ light shines within you when you are a believer, so there is no reason to let darkness overtake you. Our Heavenly Father sent His son to offer you a better way of life.

James 8:10-12 says, “When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, ‘Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?’ She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.’ Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” (emphasis mine)

It isn’t necessary. You have a choice. You have the power to rebuke the devil, and he must flee. This must be done with the authority of faith in Jesus Christ. This is when believing in God isn’t enough. This is when you need to truly believe God. Sometimes, it’s easier to believe that God will work a miracle in someone else’s life rather than your own. This is simply not true. God’s Will encompasses grace and mercy for everyone.

James 4:7 says, “Humility Cures Worldliness. Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
